The Future Of Web Audio

Web browsers getting audio buffer read/write access? What the ?!
Come along to “The Future of Web Audio” at the Bocoup Loft where we will explore Mozilla’s experimental Audio Data API.

What?

There has been a lot of movement by the browser development community in recent months. This is big news for music software programmers, game developers and accessibility providers. Audio buffer read/write access is being granted to the DOM, meaning that programmers will be able write audio software in the browser without any plug-ins like Flash or Java.

Alistair MacDonald will demonstrate the work being done to expose raw <audio> data to JavaScript in Firefox by David Humprey and the Processing.js team.

This talk will include:

  1. Demos: in-browser audio software written in JavaScript such as: beat detection, music synthesis and touch-screen musical instruments.
  2. Info: where to download pre-release browser version to try out the code.
  3. Tutorial: Programming with the Audio Data API in JavaScript (oh so easy!)
  4. Discussion: open floor for discussions between audio programmers and web developers.

The talk will be aimed at developers and professionals building and using audio software in their day-to-day work and web developers who are building applications in the browser.
